The Allies of Innocence Project--a partnership between Burrell Communications Group, Perspectives Ltd, Purpose Over Pain, The Faith Community at St. Sabina, and Winston & Strawn—recently raised over $30,000, kick-starting their efforts in providing quality grief counseling to families and children affected by gun violence.
Often times, families affected by gun violence are overlooked when, in fact, they are the ones who suffer the most. That is, when a life is lost to gun violence, the impact can be catastrophic for them. This year in Chicago over 3,000 shootings have occurred. That means over 3,000 families were affected by gun violence this year alone. That also means more than 3,000 families are potentially suffering behind the traumatic loss of a loved one.
Although there is no real way to tell how those silent survivors will be affected in the long run, The Allies of Innocence hope to provide surviving families immediate access to counseling at no cost to them for up to one year.
